Before the selection process, Arizona Girls State delegates had fully recognized and understood the importance of honoring our nation’s flag through ceremony and respect. We were told that each morning and evening, however, we would experience and grow to understand the value of teaching and recognizing this ceremony. This morning, as the start to the week of Girls State, we witnessed the beautiful presentation of colors… and the sky seemed to present it’s colors as well, in accordance with the ceremony. On this beautiful morning, harmony of music, the sky, pride for our nation, and more than 200 girl’s hearts swelled with longing to leave a legacy on our nation. The violin accomplice to play the national anthem pulled on our heartstrings as the flag was raised. For the Yucca ladies, this moment especially holds the memory of giggles, smiles, and an infamous photograph of our pole holder.
