Mia Fredericks – City of Palo Verde

June 22nd marks the first day of Arizona Girls State, although it looks a bit different than in years past. Typically, Girls State takes place at the University of Arizona, but due to the coronavirus, it has been held virtually this year. Nonetheless, the Girls State team has once again put together a wonderful session.  The first day involved an informational session, and  even had the opportunity to be addressed by Governor Doug Ducey, and Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Martha McSally, along with Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, who is an AZ Girls State Alumni.

Eventually, we divided into the two main parties of the 51st mythical state. The two parties are the Nationalists and Federalists, and I was assigned to be a Federalist. During the Federalist meeting, we decided which areas we wanted to include with our platform. After many amazing suggestions from the party members, the Federalist party decided on a platform containing  our fundamental  E’s : Environment, Education, and empathy. We look forward to what the rest of this week entails!
