Catherine Zbiegien – City of Cholla
Today was another great day for the Arizona Girls State program! So far this week, each day has been full of clever ideas and exciting opportunities. I never knew there was so much involved in running a government! Seeing what goes into managing our city and county has made me realize that it is not as easy as it looks!
Today Cholla City and Palo Verde City met together, and we had our first Supai County meeting. In this meeting we elected people for some of the county positions, and we saw many of our Cholla citizens be selected. Ms. McCullar was chosen to be the County Clerk. Ms. Ralph is one of the two County Supervisors. Ms. Steenhard was elected for the County Sheriff position. Ms. Obal is our County Recorder, and Ms. Porras is our County Treasurer. We did not get through all of the county positions today, so we will continue to elect citizens from Cholla and Palo Verde tomorrow. Congratulations to our Cholla citizens who were elected!
We also chose people to be our Cholla representatives running for governor and secretary of state. Ms. Fry was chosen to be the representative for secretary of state, and Ms. Steenhard was chosen to be the representative for governor. Good luck to both of you in the upcoming elections!
Everyone has been working very hard to make Girls State the best experience possible. It is very uplifting to see how enthusiastic everyone is to be a part of this program! Many have volunteered for any position they could and have been very willing to share their ideas for our city and county. The chat room is always full of compliments, “Congratulations” for those having been elected, and insightful suggestions.
I have seen the citizens of Girls State and Cholla City be nothing but supportive and optimistic. I look forward to seeing what else our city and state will do tomorrow!
