Mia Fredericks – City of Palo Verde

On June 25th, the citizens of the 51st mythical state had the opportunity to hear from some of Arizona’s greatest present day leaders.  Many of the leaders we heard from had actually been in our seats years before as Girls State delegates. As human rights activist, Malcolm X, once said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” We began the day with an inspirational message from Kimberly Yee. Mrs. Yee has a historic background, as she is the first Asian American woman to serve as the Arizona State Treasurer. The citizens also learned about the process of making a law, and have the opportunity to propose laws to the incoming governor.

In today’s Supai county meeting, elections have been finalized and it is time for the newly elected officials to uphold their campaign promises.  County members also gathered to decide who should represent Supai in the upcoming governor and secretary of state political races.  The governor candidate from Palo Verde, Ms. Olivar,  delivered her speech by honoring her Native American heritage, which was extremely inspiring and revealed her diverse heritage to county members.

Furthermore, Ms. Steenhard is also running for governor, and the Supai candidates for secretary of state are Ms. Fry and Ms. Bacera. Each individual candidate delivered amazing speeches, and revealed what they would do if elected. This resulted in  county members being left with a hard decision to make. Best of luck to all candidates in these races, you all are excellent leaders, and I am excited to see what everyone accomplishes.

Education is the passport to the future
