Emma White – Ocotillo City
We are almost to the end of the week already and I have been having a blast here at Girls State. We elected our Governor, Jaydyn Ocampo, and our Secretary of State, Annie Traugut. In our Q & A Jaydyn talked about how she would help the homeless by removing anti-homeless infrastructure and creating more homeless shelters. She also doesn’t just want to open the door for minorities in politics but also keep the door open for others.
Annie said that having 4 year plans at community colleges was a good second option for people who want those degrees but don’t want to spend the money. She also stated that students with special needs were, “Still people and still deserve the same education that we all get.” She also addressed the plastic pollution problem by stating she was going to try and limit the amount of plastic that can be used and suggested glass instead.
After the elections we all went to work. I, as on the Board of Supervisors, worked in my county to try and create our county book. With only one more day to finish it we have a lot to get done but I am sure we will be able to get it finished in time and make it the best county book. I know in Ocotillo they have made a great start and will have it done in no time.
