Girls Nation is an esteemed, nation-renown program held in Washington D.C. from July 23rd to July 30th this year. Every year, girls from each state’s Girls State compete for the two senator spots for Girls Nation.

To run for these available spots, they must first pass primary elections. Then, they must present their 2-minute bill to their County and be one of the top “senators” in their County. Finally, they move on to the final voting step: the State level.

As part of the trip, each “senator” connects with girls from all over the nation interested in the same field: politics. They hold a similar program to the one in Girls State, but on a much larger scale, meeting with country officials, such as Senators of the United States and maybe even the President.

Once done with the program, the girls all have the necessary foundation they need to embark on their journey to being elected officials in our nation’s political system. They leave with long-lasting friendships, which may even follow them into their future careers.

Our very own Yucca City’s Abigail Cramer is running for the spot of Girls Nation senator, with a bill focusing on better instructing teachers on dealing with children with learning disabilities. Enjoy our podcast with Cramer below!
