Desiree Nguyen – Palo Verde City
Despite the barrier of our computer screens, tensions were still hot in our county meeting as today was the day we see which of these amazing girls would become leaders of tomorrow for both Supai county and our whole state!
With all of us delegates present, either eager to participate in the democratic process of our government or nervous to deliver a speech to a digital audience, the meeting proceeded onwards with both primary county and state elections. All of our candidates spoke with such conviction in continuing to uphold the prestigious mantle of Supai through their various county positions and such passion in representing our voices.
I sat in front of my screen amazed at the determination in our youth as the girls’ inspiring speeches echoed throughout my quiet room. I dared not to mutter a word during such fervent speeches, which were brimming with hopeful ideas for our county, despite being muted as I was struck by the sheer confidence each candidate manated.
Although all of the speeches I had the honor to bear witness varied in their duration and rethrotic, they all shared a common theme: ambition. Even in the face of our virtual adversities, these delegates, now our county officials, of this year’s Girl State were still able to proudly showcase their aspirations to not only succeed in this program, but to succeed later on, perhaps, our future politicians of Arizona.
For our Girls Nation, which is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to debate on the Senate floor of Washington D.C., primary election, I have the immense pleasure to announce the two candidates moving forward to the general elections are Kateyln Kim and Isabella Arellano, who are both federalists hailing from the city of Cholla. Good luck, girls!
Tomorrow, I, alongside 5 other hardworking bloggers, will have the honor to interview the candidates for Governor and Secretary of State on a variety of topics. Until then…
