Anticipation mounted as the citizens of Cholla heard that they would finally be meeting their sister cities.
After becoming well acquainted with their fellow peers and Cholla citizens, it was evident they itched to meet the rest of Girls State’s citizens.
Hoping to make a good impression, they brainstormed ways to be memorable and make a mark on the other girls.
Naturally, based on their premise of My Little Pony and the special skills of the people found in their city, they resorted to making balloon animals.
What started off as a fun simple activity quickly became a testament to Cholla’s quick organizational skills and the close knit community they had already built.
The newly elected mayor, Ella Hackett, hastened to place people into groups: one for blowing balloons up and one for tying them.
The group of about 15 or so teenage girls transformed into circus workers, twisting balloons and becoming immune to their popping. Occasionally, a citizen’s balloon would pop or they would have trouble tying the strings, but without fail their fellow members came to their rescue.
Outside of the disturbing popping noises the raucous laughter was a prominent feature and in the end the girls not only grew as balloon artists but also as friends.
