Hi Everyone, I am so happy that you are reading this blog!
Today was my first day as a delegate of Arizona Girls State! I learned that this year is an important year as it is the 100th year anniversary of the 19th amendment, an amendment that ensured the right to vote for everyone. They were so many new faces across Arizona, but it was interesting to see some familiar faces as well. We were warmly welcomed by the AZ Girls State Director, Mrs. Maklary, and listened as she explained about the intention of Arizona Girls State and what she hopes we will get out of this experience. I was amazed to hear from our state officials who welcomed us to our first day in camp including, Senators Martha McSally and Kyrsten Sinema, Governor Doug Ducey, and Secretary of State Katie Hobbs.
I was personally inspired by the story of Katie Hobbs. I couldn’t believe she was in my position 33 years ago as a delegate at AZ Girls State! It made me believe that if I want to go into politics, I can. Previously Katie Hobbs had no intention of going into politics, but she came to realize the immense amount of good that could be enacted if she held a position in politics. I thought that it was amazing that she answered the call of service.
I found out that I am in the City of Saguaro, the best cactus in Arizona! I am pumped up for tomorrow and can’t wait to learn more about the political process and interact with my fellow citizens. Till tomorrow…
