Cholla City Reporters

The citizens of Cholla City are making great strides to rise to the top of the ranks. Today all the citizens of Supai county met up together to decide nominations for various county offices.

Out of the three cities in the Supai county the only candidates for the office of County Sheriff are from Cholla City! The three candidates are Alexis Alvarez, Gabriella Tafoya, and Sarah Kibbey. We are very proud of these three ladies!

The County Sheriff is responsible for enforcement of law in the County, maintaining (running) the jail, and providing security in all courts of the County.

Usually, this role is very male dominated; which makes the three ladies running for this office even more empowered.

It is important to have female representation in our governments, especially to be a role model for future girl state citizens.

The responsibility these ladies have volunteered for is one that can be full of fun but also a good learning experience. Tons of laughter and surprised expressions filled the County House as the delegates raised their hands in ambition to become the next Sheriff of Cholla City!

Our lovely candidates have taken the time to say a few words for the whole State!

Alexis Alvarez: “I am very enthusiastic to run among the other candidates. I look forward to influencing my county. Have common sense, VOTE ALEXIS!”

Sarah Kibbey, one of Cholla City’s journalists states, “I am looking forward to being able to ‘keep order in the county’ and to meet the citizens! Good luck to all the other candidates (from my city!). May the best woman win!”

Our city also has many delegates who are working hard in their campaigning for both county and state positions. As a city, we girls are close with one another and love to sit and chat with those from other cities and counties.

Our County Attorney candidate would like to say, “Hey, I am Alexa Hernandez, and I am running for Supai county attorney. I have always had an interest in law and would love the opportunity to serve as your County Attorney. Alexa, your partner in crime for legal matters!”

Jazmin Santillan proclaims, “I am running for Arizona State Governor. I believe that people in power should always strive for a better tomorrow- that’s what life is all about. One should strive to be opened minded and include people from all social constructs, life backgrounds, and opinions; coming together to provide the best solutions for pressing issues.

I am so excited to see all the amazing candidates, and getting to know them. Not only because Girls Nation has created new life experiences, but because it has created community.”

Good luck to all the GIRLS NATION SENATORS!!!!!
